Load Tap Changers (LRT-200)

In 1978, the GE Medium Transformer Plant in Rome, Georgia first introduced its “Load Vac” Tap Changers. These units, directly mounted to GE Substation Transformers, are used as a means of controlling voltage levels.

The units employ a unique three-phase switch mechanism that is mounted in one of two different configurations depending on the power rating of the Transformer.

  • LRT 200-2 “end mounted design” is applied on Substation Transformers rated above 10 MVA and features a separate LTC tank/control cabinet combination.
  • LRT 200A-2 “front mounted design” is applied on Substation Transformers rated 10 MVA and below and feature the LTC tank/control as one integral unit.
  • LRT 200-3 is the latest upgraded design available as a replacement unit for both the LRT200-2 and LRT 200A-2.
